Privacy Policy expand_more
Last updated: March 2026. Comprehensive details on how NotebookGen protects your privacy and data.
1. Privacy-First & 100% Client-Side Architecture
Welcome to NotebookGen ("we," "our," or "us"). At NotebookGen, we believe privacy is a fundamental human right. NotebookGen is engineered with a strict 100% client-side web architecture. All text conversion, handwriting simulation, font processing, drawing rendering, and PDF/image export take place locally within your web browser using JavaScript and HTML5 Canvas technologies.
None of the text you type or paste, notes you format, images you embed, or custom font files (.ttf / .otf) you upload are ever transmitted to, stored on, or processed by external web servers. Your documents remain strictly on your device at all times.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
To ensure total user privacy, NotebookGen operates on a strict data-minimization principle. We do NOT collect, record, or store any of the following:
- Personal Identification Data: No names, email addresses, phone numbers, or account credentials.
- Editor Content: No assignment text, essays, lab reports, mathematical formulas, or personal notes.
- Uploaded Files: No custom fonts, background images, diagrams, or drawings.
- Exported Documents: No generated PDF files or PNG images.
- Payment Information: NotebookGen is 100% free with no credit card requirements or paid tiers.
3. Local Storage (Auto-Save & Offline Drafts)
NotebookGen utilizes your web browser's local storage (localStorage) to deliver an automatic auto-save experience so you never lose your progress during unexpected browser closures. This data includes:
- Your current editor content and formatting state.
- Sidebar configurations (selected handwriting font, ink color, line spacing, margins, and paper background style).
- User preferences such as Light/Dark theme mode and cookie consent choice.
This data is stored strictly on your local device. It is never synchronized with any remote server. You can clear this saved data at any any time by clicking "Reset" in the editor or by clearing your browser's site cookies and local storage.
4. Google AdSense & Advertising Cookies
To keep NotebookGen 100% free for all students, educators, and creators worldwide without charging subscriptions, we partner with Google AdSense to display non-intrusive advertisements.
Google AdSense may use cookies and web beacons (such as the DoubleClick DART cookie) to serve advertisements based on a user's prior visits to our website or other websites on the Internet. These cookies allow Google and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
Opting Out of Personalized Ads: You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info.
5. Third-Party Services & Content Delivery Networks (CDNs)
NotebookGen integrates trusted third-party resources solely to deliver web fonts and core assets:
- Google Fonts: Used to load open-source handwriting fonts (such as Kalam, Caveat, Indie Flower). When your browser requests fonts, your IP address may be logged by Google in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare CDN: Used to deliver fast, secure SSL encryption and static script delivery across global edge networks.
- Google Analytics (GA4): We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated traffic statistics (such as total pageviews, device category, and browser type) to optimize website performance. No personally identifiable information (PII) is transmitted.
6. Children's Privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K Compliance)
NotebookGen is designed as an accessible educational tool for students of all ages. Because we do not require account registration, do not collect personal identifying information, and do not store user-generated content on our servers, NotebookGen is fully compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Article 8 of the GDPR (GDPR-K).
If a parent or guardian believes that any personal information has inadvertently been provided to us via our contact form, please contact us immediately, and we will promptly delete it.
7. Data Security & Zero-Server Retention
Because all document compilation, font rendering, and image generation are executed strictly in your browser's memory, there is zero risk of remote database breaches or unauthorized cloud access to your assignment files. Once you close your browser tab, memory-based processing is completely cleared.
8. International Privacy Rights (GDPR & CCPA/CPRA)
Under the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), users have rights regarding their data. Since NotebookGen does not collect, process, or sell personal data or editor content, our platform inherently respects your fundamental rights to data privacy, confidentiality, and data minimization.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may periodically update this Privacy Policy to reflect enhancements in technology, security, or legal requirements. Any modifications will be posted directly on this page with an updated revision date. Your continued use of the Service after any update constitutes your agreement to the revised policy.
10. Contact & Privacy Inquiries
