How we protect your data and respect your privacy.
Effective Date: June 5, 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to NotebookGen ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website and use the NotebookGen handwritten assignment generator application (collectively, the "Service"). We are committed to protecting the privacy and security of our users.
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the practices described in this policy, please do not use the Service. This policy applies to all visitors, users, and others who access the Service.
NotebookGen is designed with a privacy-first architecture. Unlike traditional web applications that process data on remote servers, NotebookGen operates entirely within your web browser. This fundamental design choice means that your text, images, drawings, and assignments never leave your device unless you explicitly choose to export or share them.
2. Information We Collect
Information We Do NOT Collect
NotebookGen is designed to minimize data collection. We do not collect:
Personal identification information (names, email addresses, phone numbers)
The text content you type into the editor
Images or drawings you create or upload
Generated assignment documents
Assignment settings, font choices, or formatting preferences on our servers
Payment information (the service is entirely free)
Social media profiles or account information
Information That May Be Automatically Collected
When you access our website, certain information may be collected automatically by third-party services we use:
Browser type and version: Collected by analytics services to help us understand compatibility requirements.
Device type: Mobile, tablet, or desktop — to help us optimize the responsive experience.
Approximate geographic location: Derived from IP address by third-party analytics (country/region level only, never precise location).
Pages visited and time spent: Aggregate usage data to help us understand which features are most used.
Referral source: How you found NotebookGen (e.g., search engine, direct link).
This information is collected in aggregate and cannot be used to personally identify you.
3. Local Storage & Cookies
Local Storage (Auto-Save)
NotebookGen uses your browser's localStorage to automatically save your work. This includes:
Your editor content (text, formatting, embedded images)
This data is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to our servers or any third party. You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's local storage or using the application's reset function.
Cookies
NotebookGen itself does not set any tracking cookies. However, third-party services embedded in our site (such as Google AdSense and Google Fonts) may set cookies on your device. See sections 4 and 5 below for details on these third-party cookies.
4. Third-Party Services
NotebookGen integrates the following third-party services:
Google Fonts
We use Google Fonts to load handwriting and UI fonts. When you visit NotebookGen, your browser downloads font files from Google's servers. Google may collect your IP address and browser information in this process. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy.
html2canvas (Cloudflare CDN)
We load the html2canvas library from Cloudflare's CDN for image export functionality. Cloudflare may collect basic analytics. Cloudflare's privacy policy: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on our site. See the dedicated section below for comprehensive details on AdSense data practices.
5. Google AdSense & Cookies
NotebookGen uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google AdSense is a third-party advertising service provided by Google LLC. AdSense uses cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our website and other websites on the Internet.
What Cookies Does AdSense Use?
DoubleClick DART Cookie: Google uses this cookie to serve ads based on your interests and browsing history. You can opt out of the DART cookie by visiting Google Ad Settings.
NID / CONSENT Cookies: Used to store user preferences and manage consent for personalized advertising.
_gads / _gid Cookies: Used to track ad performance and measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns.
How Google Uses Your Information
Google may use the information collected through AdSense to:
Serve personalized advertisements based on your interests
All document processing in NotebookGen occurs entirely within your web browser (client-side). This includes:
Text rendering and handwriting effect application
Page pagination and layout calculations
Image processing, cropping, and resizing
Drawing canvas operations
PDF generation and image export
Auto-save and snapshot management
At no point during these processes is your content transmitted to any server, API, or cloud service. The assignment you create exists only in your browser's memory and local storage until you explicitly export or download it.
7. Data Security
Because NotebookGen processes all data locally in your browser, the security of your content is primarily governed by your own device and browser security. We recommend:
Keeping your browser updated to the latest version
Using a device with up-to-date antivirus and security software
Being cautious when using shared or public computers — clear local storage after use
Regularly backing up important assignments by exporting them as PDFs or images
Our website is served over HTTPS to ensure that the connection between your browser and our servers is encrypted. However, since we do not store your assignment data, there is no server-side data to protect beyond the website itself.
8. Children's Privacy
NotebookGen is designed for general audiences and is suitable for users of all ages. In compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar international regulations:
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age.
Since NotebookGen does not require account creation and does not collect personal data, children can safely use the service.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to supervise their children's internet usage and to instruct children not to provide personal information online.
If you believe that a child under 13 has provided personal information through our service, please contact us immediately at privacy@trynotebookgen.com and we will take steps to address the issue.
9. Your Rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), you have certain data protection rights, including:
Right to access: You can request information about the personal data we hold about you.
Right to rectification: You can request correction of inaccurate personal data.
Right to erasure: You can request deletion of your personal data.
Right to restrict processing: You can request that we limit our use of your data.
Right to data portability: You can request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format.
Right to object: You can object to our processing of your data for certain purposes.
Since NotebookGen does not collect personal data, these rights are largely already satisfied by design. Any data stored by NotebookGen resides exclusively in your browser's local storage, which you can manage directly.
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
Know what personal information we collect, use, and share
Request deletion of personal information
Opt out of the sale of personal information
Non-discrimination for exercising your CCPA rights
NotebookGen does not sell personal information. We do not collect personal information beyond what is described in this policy.
10. International Data Transfers
NotebookGen's website may be hosted on servers in various locations. Third-party services (Google Fonts, Google AdSense, Cloudflare) may process data in different jurisdictions. By using the Service, you acknowledge that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, where data protection laws may differ.
We ensure that any data transfer complies with applicable data protection laws, including the use of Standard Contractual Clauses where required.
11. Changes to This Policy
We reserve the right to update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time. When we make changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to periodically review this Privacy Policy to stay informed about how we are protecting your information.
Significant changes will be communicated through a notice on our website. Your continued use of the Service after any modifications constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
12. Contact Us
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or our data practices, please contact us on our Contact Page by sending a message.
We will respond to all legitimate requests within 30 days.
We use cookies for analytics and advertising. See our Privacy Policy for details.
